- Permanent full time
Aerial Access is seeking a Field Service Diesel Mechanic to join the team in Ballarat and play a pivotal role in maintaining and servicing our fleet, plant, and diesel machinery.
The work:
As the Field Service Disel Mechanic you’ll take ownership of scheduled and unscheduled repairs and servicing, primarily in the field and at remote depots via a mobile field service vehicle. Your expertise will ensure our equipment remains safe, compliant, and reliable, while meeting the highest standards of safety, quality, and environmental compliance.
While this is a standalone field role, you won’t be working in isolation. You’ll be backed by experienced mechanics across the business and supported by nearby workshop locations.
Your day-to-day will include:
- Diagnosing and repairing mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults on diesel plant, trucks and machinery in the field, using diagnostic tooling and software where required
- Carrying out scheduled servicing and maintenance in line with manufacturers’ recommended intervals
- Responding promptly to breakdowns, with after-hours work as required
- Travelling to work sites, completing site inductions and representing the company professionally
- Welding and fabrication work in line with site-specific Hot Works requirements, plus some workshop / depot-based activity as required
- Working with equipment suppliers, third-party repairers and other providers to maximise uptime, and making recommendations to improve plant and equipment reliability
- Keeping your field service vehicle, tools and equipment clean and well stocked, and completing accurate job cards, service sheets, inspection records and parts requisitions, including via mobile or digital maintenance systems
- Maintaining strong safety standards, reporting hazards and incidents immediately, and taking part in team meetings and toolbox talks
What’s in it for you:
Get out from behind the bench and into the field. Here’s what you can look forward to:
- Great pay, from $50ph – start at $50 per hour, plus overtime and LAHA when required. Your skills and your extra effort are rewarded.
- Flexible start and finish times – your hours move with demand, giving you real flexibility to manage your day, not just your jobs.
- Your own mobile workshop – you’ll have a mobile field service vehicle to take the work straight to the machine, wherever it needs you.
- Variety that keeps it interesting – trucks, plant and a wide range of machinery, on site and at remote depots. No two days look the same, and there’s always a new fault to chase down.
- Real autonomy and trust – you’re the expert in the field. We back you to make sound repair decisions, plan your day and own the outcome, without someone looking over your shoulder.
- Never on your own – while it’s a standalone role, you’ll have experienced mechanics across the business to call on, plus workshop support when you need it.
- A team that’s supportive, practical and easy to work with – people who get the job done and have your back.
- Stable, consistent work – lock in a role with steady work and the satisfaction of keeping the fleet safe, reliable and running.
- Kitted out and covered – we provide all uniforms and PPE, so you can focus on the work.
- A safety-first workplace – safety isn’t just a poster on the wall. It’s how we work, every job, every day.
- Access to our Employee Assistance Program, Employee benefits & Referral Bonus Program
What you will need:
- Trade qualified Diesel/Plant Fitter or Mechanic (Cert III minimum)
- Minimum 2 years’ field service experience on a wide range of equipment, i.e. trucks, mobile plant and various types of machinery
- Current, unrestricted Medium Rigid (MR) driver’s licence (HR preferred)
- A self-starter who is highly organised, uses initiative and has excellent diagnostic skills
- Able to work remotely and unsupervised, safely, and make sound repair decisions on site
- Basic computer skills (tablets or laptops for diagnostics and job reporting)
- Reliable, safety-focused and physically fit for a full day’s work
Desirable, but not essential:
- Hydraulics and auto electrical experience
- Experience with OEM diagnostic software
- Cert II Automotive Air Conditioning
- Valid First Aid / CPR
